The
valley of the Besaya river reasons from time
immemorial by the geographic center of
Cantabria, being the main one communication
channel between the plateau and the Cantabrian
ports.
From
Torrelavega begins the
call “Route of the Romanesque”, being
able to cross itself Bárcena de Pie de Concha and
Pesquera enters standing up the section of Roman
road better conserved of Cantabria.
In

as much of civil character (Cartes, Riocorvo,
Las Fraguas, Barros), like monk (Silió, Yermo), the
great majority of them declared historical-artistic

Los
Corrales de Buelna "Guerras Cantabras"
During the last weekend of
August and first of September, the Celebration takes place in the locality
of the Corrales de Buelna “Cantabrian Wars”. Declared of Regional
Tourist Interest, it has been commemorating the conquest of the Cantabrian
towns on the part of the Roman legions, for more than 2,000 years. |

Silio
"La Vijanera"
The Vijanera is one of the most traditional and
ingrained celebrations of Cantabria that takes place the first Sunday of
every year in Silió, locality of the municipality of Molledo.
One is the first carnival of the year, to which
hundreds of people go and in whom the arrival of the new year is celebrated
and the bad spirits in a tradition flee that goes back to the Roman time. |

Torrelavega
Torrelavega, the capital of the Besaya, is
located in center northern of the region and occupies the second place of
Cantabria in which to population it talks about, only preceded by Santander.
